Banana Bread

Classic Banana Bread

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • Pinch of salt
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 4×8 inch (10×20 cm) loaf pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork.
  3. Stir the melted butter into the mashed bananas.
  4. Mix in the baking soda and salt.
  5. Add the sugar, beaten egg, and vanilla extract, and mix well.
  6. Stir in the flour until just incorporated.
  7. If desired, fold in the chopped nuts.
  8. Pour the batter into the greased loaf pan.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 60-65 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Allow the banana bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For added flavor, consider tossing the optional nuts in a bit of flour before folding them into the batter. This prevents them from sinking to the bottom during baking. Enjoy this classic banana bread warm with a spread of butter or cream cheese.
