  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 8 hamburger buns
  • Optional toppings: coleslaw, pickles, sliced red onion

Instructions

  2. In a bowl, whisk together barbecue sauce, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper.
  3. Pour the sauce over the ham, ensuring it’s well coated.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or until the ham is tender and easily pulls apart with a fork.
  5. Once cooked, shred the ham using two forks and mix it with the sauce in the slow cooker.
  6. Toast the hamburger buns.
  7. Assemble sandwiches by placing a generous portion of the barbecue ham on each bun.
  8. Add optional toppings if desired.
  9. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

For added flavor, consider marinating the ham in the barbecue sauce mixture for a few hours or overnight in the refrigerator before placing it in the slow cooker. This will allow the savory and sweet flavors to penetrate the ham more deeply. Additionally, feel free to customize the sandwich by experimenting with different types of barbecue sauce or adding your favorite cheese for a delightful twist. If you prefer a bit of heat, a dash of hot sauce or red pepper flakes can be included in the sauce mixture. This versatile recipe is perfect for gatherings, potlucks, or easy weeknight dinners, offering a delicious and satisfying meal with minimal effort.
