Cabbage Relish

This Sweet and Tangy Cabbage Relish is a vibrant and versatile condiment. Packed with crunch and flavor, it’s perfect as a refreshing side dish or topping for your favorite sandwiches and burgers.

Ingredients

  • Cabbage: Four cups, shredded.
  • Carrots: One cup, shredded.
  • Onion: Half a cup, finely chopped.
  • Vinegar mixture: Half a cup of apple cider vinegar, a quarter cup of granulated sugar, half a teaspoon of salt, a quarter teaspoon each of black pepper and celery seeds.

Instructions

  • Prepare the Vegetables: In a large bowl, combine the shredded cabbage, shredded carrots, and finely chopped onion.
  • Make the Vinegar Dressing: In a small saucepan, heat the apple cider vinegar, granulated sugar, salt, pepper, and celery seeds over medium heat. Stir occasionally until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is heated through.
  • Combine: Pour the hot vinegar mixture over the cabbage mixture. Stir well to coat the vegetables evenly.
  • Chill: Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Serve: Enjoy the relish chilled as a side dish or topping for sandwiches and burgers.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, let the relish chill for a few hours or overnight.
  • Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less sugar according to your preference.
  • This relish can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
  • Add extra crunch by mixing in some chopped celery or bell peppers if desired.
