Crème Brûlée Donut Rolls

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F/43°C)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Filling:

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

For the Crème Brûlée Topping:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, flour, salt, eggs, and vanilla extract. Add the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
  4. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the dough into a rectangle.
  5. For the filling, mix sugar and cinnamon. Brush the rolled-out dough with melted butter and sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly. Roll the dough into a log and cut into rolls.
  6. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. For the Crème Brûlée Topping, combine sugar, butter, cream, vanilla, and salt in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat until it thickens.
  8. Once the rolls are done, pour the Crème Brûlée Topping over them. Use a kitchen torch to caramelize the topping until it forms a golden crust.

Notes

These Crème Brûlée Donut Rolls are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to two days. Reheat briefly in the oven before serving for the best texture.
